READ ME 'NAPOLEON 1813' INTERMEDIATE PATCH 1. Version 1.1 revision 1, build 39. The following details the amendments which have been made to 'Napoleon' for this patch. This patch mainly deals with the battle game. Improved enemy AI. The enemy should now be more aggressive, counterattack more and support it's own units better. Enemy may now fire a preparatory bombardment before assaulting. Enemy AI less prone to stalling and may escalate a successful assault. Enemy AI now more flexible and more likely to modify its own plan depending on how the battle develops. In historical battles the AI may decide to counterattack should it lose a VP location. Battle Mechanics & Logic. 1) Command Control and Order Issuing Routine completely revised (when playing with 'Delayed Order Option'). First orders of the day will generally now be actioned with little delay (to reflect overnight planning). Corps commanders made much more important in the 'chain of command' and have a much greater influence on how fast units action new orders. Command radius for all leaders increased. The net result is that units will generally action orders faster, especially if they have a good corps commander. However, please note that due to the 'friction' of war there may still be occasions when units may take a considerable time to obey new orders (especially if they are isolated or under a poor commander). 2) Infantry movement reduced when moving in square. 3) Cavalry movement slightly reduced. 4) Cavalry vs. Infantry shock combat routine completely revised. Much greater emphasis on morale and less on losses. 5) Infantry vs. Infantry shock combat routine slightly revised. 6) Artillery firepower slightly reduced. 7) Artillery reaction routine revised. Unsupported artillery now rather less 'gung ho'. 8) Effectiveness of artillery in shock combat reduced. 9) Corps Morale Test routine revised. Main change is that units acting as the corps reserve are less affected should the corps fail its morale test (provided they are still relatively fresh). 10) Russian infantry gain a small bonus when defending. 11) Enemy leader movement routine slightly revised (further amendments to this will be made later). 12) Minor unit morale amendments made. 13) Minor reaction amendments made. 14) Minor amendments made to some combat routines. 15) Various crash bugs fixed (these are mainly due to movement logic). Campaign Game This patch mainly deals with crash bugs. Several of these now fixed. In addition - 1) The AI will no longer 'steal' your replacements from the pool. 2) In the battle deployment screen you can no longer command enemy units. 3) The odd cases where the Allies sometimes start fighting amongst themselves should now be fixed. Please note Work is continuing on the strategic AI patch. Work is continuing on the head to head patch. Work on improving the battle game further is continuing.
